Program Director Spain & Portugal


From W Executive Spain we are looking for a program leader sought to direct operations across Iberia (Spain & Portugal) from a Madrid hub, overseeing a multidisciplinary team and driving market engagement to increase the uptake and credibility of sustainability certification across retail and foodservice sectors. The role combines strategic program delivery, people leadership, external representation and cross‑regional collaboration, requiring strong judgment, stakeholder gravitas and the ability to translate strategy into measurable operational outcomes.


Main responsibilities

  • Lead and be accountable for program delivery across Spain and Portugal, translating organizational strategy into clear operational priorities and measurable targets.
  • Manage a Madrid‑based, multidisciplinary team of professionals (science, commercial/market outreach, communications), ensuring clarity, structure and effective resourcing.
  • Coach, mentor and performance‑manage senior specialists, maintaining team cohesion during leadership transition and a hybrid working model.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen market presence and commercial relevance, with a focus on retailer and seafood market engagement.
  • Represent the organization credibly with industry stakeholders, government, NGOs, retailers, processors and research partners across the Iberian food ecosystem.
  • Develop annual workplans and manage team budgets and financial delegations to deliver country targets and regional objectives.
  • Coordinate cross‑regionally with other Program Directors and central teams (science, standards, communications, senior leadership) to align priorities and share market insight.
  • Oversee adoption and appropriate use of enterprise digital tools, CRM and reporting systems to support efficient programme management.
  • Support communications, fundraising and external visibility activities, including public speaking and representation at conferences and media where required.

Perfil buscado (H/M/D)

  • Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in environmental policy, marine/fisheries science, natural resources, international business or related discipline.
  • Substantial senior leadership experience, with proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and implement operational governance.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Spanish; Portuguese language skills desirable. Strong presentation and external‑representation capability required.
  • High level of stakeholder sensitivity and cultural awareness, with experience managing multi‑stakeholder processes and high‑level meetings.
  • Strong program and project management skills, including workplanning, prioritisation and the ability to produce measurable outcomes in complex environments.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), familiarity with SharePoint and CRM systems advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
